Hey there, This is the first Monday Meets in a while. Summer has taken it’s toll. It’s been a fun toll for the most part. Vacations and conventions. So, here to kick off the return of “Monday Meets” as a regular feature is Nic Starr.
Anticipation, nervousness and anxiety
Thanks for having me visit, Brynn. As usual, it’s great to be here. J
I wanted to talk a little about anticipation, nervousness and anxiety, emotions I’ve been drowning in for the last few weeks.

I like to think I’m a fairly confident person. In the corporate world, I’m pretty fearless. I can tackle a multitude of situations without losing my cool. I’ve chaired forums, run meetings, presented to boards, and donned the earpiece microphone for public speaking events. But when it comes to releasing one of my books to the public, it’s a whole different story!
This month saw the release of Andrew’s Promise, the second in my Heroes series. The anxiety that gnaws in the pit of my stomach doesn’t lessen with each book release. In fact, I think it grows. I held my breath waiting to see the response to the story. Even the first wonderful reviews didn’t lessen the dread. Putting yourself out there to be criticized is tough. You’re opening yourself to a potential world of hurt. So why does judgement of my stories worry me more than judgement of my professional performance?
For me, it comes down to how personal my stories are. They come from my heart. I’m giving people a glimpse of what’s inside, and if I’m honest, I want people to like me. My professional life is based on facts and figures. I’m confident in the topic I’m discussing or the information I’m giving. They are two very different things.
So why put myself through the stress? That’s an easy one to answer. I love bringing my stories to life. I enjoy the whole journey to get a book out there and get a thrill from being published. And for all the negative risks, I’m also opening myself up to hearing of the positive impacts my stories have had on others.
So a big thank you to all the readers who enjoy my books and help make this journey worthwhile.
Have a great day!
And for those of you interested, here are the details of my latest release J
Young mechanic Andrew Campbell’s life couldn’t be better. He is about to restore a Ford Mustang with his dad before heading off on the ultimate cross-country road trip with his best friend, Tanner McKenzie.
But tragedy strikes, and Andrew’s life is shattered. Worried his family will be torn apart if he doesn’t step in, Andrew makes a tough choice between following his heart and doing what he needs to do to protect his little brother.
When Andrew pushes Tanner away, Tanner heads off on the planned trip alone. Once Tanner leaves town, his life takes a different path and it’s ten years before he returns. Now a firefighter, he’s never forgotten his first love, and no one has ever taken Andrew’s place in his heart. He’s determined to see if Andrew feels the same way. He just hopes Andrew’s excited to see him, hopes that he’s available—and finally out—after all this time.
They might not have been ready to deal with emerging feelings years ago, but now might be the time for their second chance at love.
